Most people know what to expect when they hear the words Pride and Prejudice. For those who have read Jane Austen’s popular novel, they know that these words represent a classic tale of the complicated relationships between sweethearts from different social classes. But what happens when you add ‘zombies’ to this story?
That’s what we’ll find out when Pride and Prejudice and Zombies comes out next year. Based on the 2009 parody novel by Seth Grahame-Smith, this mashup of genres makes killing zombies look a bit classy. As the trailer begins, we’re revealed images of a delicate 19th Century England featuring women in beautiful dresses as they journey through their complex love lives. It definitely creates a classic love story atmosphere that gives us the impression that this film will be filled with emotions — that is until we see a bloody zombie.
Now, the women switch from dainty to badass quickly enough to survive in this zombie apocalypse. Although I personally am not a huge fan of zombie fiction, I am a fan of strong female leads that can kick butt and are not left to be portrayed as damsels in distress.
Directed by Burr Steers, the film features leading lady Lily James alongside Bella Heathcote, Matt Smith, Douglas Booth, Jack Huston, and Sam Riley. If you’re any type of fan of zombies, blood, horror and killer action, I’d say it’s worth the watch. If you were looking for a classic love story, I’d say watch it anyway and see if you find yourself embracing in this 19th Century love and horror parody.
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies will hit theaters February 5, 2016.
