With 2015 seeing the premieres of so many different films, there are a select few that managed to leave a lasting impact. Here are the top 5 movies that rocked my summer.
As the summer began, Jurassic World burst into theaters and brought back a new sequel to the renowned 1993 Steven Spielberg classic Jurassic Park. Although it doesn’t live up to its predecessor, it does star the hunky and ever-so-charming Chris Pratt alongside some very flashy graphics. So why did it make my list? Because for those of us who grew up watching Jurassic Park, it gave us a moment to relive the thrilling and fun adventure of watching dinosaurs fill our screen – but this time in a much more colorful and vibrant manner.
Magic Mike XXL
Although the plotline of the film is very much average and does not delve into its depth potential, Magic Mike XXL still managed to charm its way onto the list. The star-studded cast featured Channing Tatum, Joe Manganiello, Matt Bomer, Adam Rodriguez and managed to add Donald Glover onto its roster. Put these men together in the same room and add a booming soundtrack and you’ve got yourself a charming summer film that delivers some laughable humor (there are also shirtless men dancing for 90% of the film, which doesn’t hurt either).
Adding to the entertainment of the summer, Amy Schumer brought us a delightful romantic comedy filled with raunchy humor and a very zany but relatable storyline. While Amy Schumer’s relationship with Bill Hader creates an electrifying humor throughout the film, it’s LeBron James that adds a little quirk to the movie with his punchlines. Overall it’s safe to say that this film created some of the prime comedy that this summer has seen.
On a more serious note, Southpaw brought us a boxing drama made to pull at the heartstrings. With a story about depression, the ups and downs that come along with being a famous athlete, and the difficult journey one must go through to come out on top, this film makes the list simply because it delivers an amazing and riveting performance by Jake Gyllenhaal. It is very obvious that he has completely immersed himself physically and emotionally in the character thus leading to a thrilling sports drama that was definitely worth the watch.
Straight Outta Compton
Last but not least, Straight Outta Compton gave us a chance to finish this summer off on a good beat. This biopic not only gave us an intensely personal recounting of the N.W.A.’s rise and fall, it also conveyed the way this group of men completely revolutionized pop culture forever. The film impeccably delivers an intriguing story from start to finish but makes the list because its performances alongside the astounding soundtrack come together to leave a lasting impact that any hip hop lover can appreciate.
