Based on the original novel written by John Niven, Kill Your Friends looks like it’s going to bring some pretty dark humor to the big screen. “Imagine you were standing on wafer thin ice, beneath your feet you can see sharks circling… these are your colleagues.” And as the trailer shows, these are the friends that become the subject of Steven Stelfox’s murders in this British dark comedy crime-thriller. The trailer follows the prevalent 1997 British music industry and gives us a glimpse into the darker side of fame and fortune. Cue the cliché sex, drugs and rock & roll scenes, yet somehow it seems that the film will keep you entertained.
In addition to being directed by Owen Harris, the script was written by John Niven himself, which means the movie-to-novel transition won’t be a disappointment. Starring Nicholas Hoult, Ed Skrein, and James Corden, this film is bound to deliver genuine British humor. It seems that Nicholas Hoult, who plays Steven Stelfox, is the breakout star of the trailer; his brooding bad boy act completely takes over the screen and becomes the main focus. As he portrays a greedy and murderous music executive, he also gives us a brilliant and thrilling performance.
Even if you’re not familiar with the Britpop music industry and its rise in the ’90s, you’ll be more than entertained by the killer soundtrack (no pun intended) and its outrageous party scenes. Kill Your Friends is sure to bring you an electrifying experience.
Kill Your Friends will open in UK theaters on November 6, 2015. A US release date has yet to be announced.
