In honor of Father’s Day, here are some of TV’s horrible dads.
Eli Pope, Scandal
Eli is ruthless. He’s constantly warring with his daughter, Olivia, and this includes threatening her life and the lives of her loved ones. But those speeches are pretty epic!
Stannis Baratheon, Game of Thrones
It can’t get any worse than burning your daughter alive and standing stoically by while she’s screaming in agony. It just can’t. I know he had us all fooled when he shared that lovely bonding moment with Shireen in “The Sons of the Harpy,” but, in hindsight, it made his decision to burn her even more shocking. Talk about emotional manipulation, Game of Thrones writers.
Lucious Lyon, Empire
Selfish, power-hungry, and controlling, Lucious has amassed quite the fortune and he’s willing to do whatever it takes to keep himself at the top of the food chain. He has no qualms about pitting his three sons against each other, resulting in anger, jealousy, and a lot of hurt feelings. He ignores his eldest son, Andre, and overindulges his youngest, Hakeem. And he outright rejects his middle son, Jamal, because he’s gay.
Captain Peralta, Brooklyn Nine-Nine
Captain Roger Peralta abandoned Jake when he was a kid, only to show up again in “Captain Peralta” under the guise that he wants to spend time with his estranged son. In reality, he just needed Jake’s help to clear his name after he was accused of a crime he didn’t commit.
Frank Gallagher, Shameless
He hasn’t burned any of his children (yet) but Frank is probably as bad as it gets when it comes to horrible (TV) dads. He’s managed to ruin their lives in a myriad of ways through his alcoholism, his drug addiction, and his overall negligence.
