Disney’s Frozen was a massive hit, so it was only a matter of time before a sequel was announced.
Frozen won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature in 2014. It grossed nearly $1.3 billion at the box office, not to mention all the money its made through merchandising (kids love their toys). ABC’s Once Upon A Time did a multi-episode Frozen arc involving Elsa (Georgina Haig) and Anna (Elizabeth Lail) to boost their ratings. There’s even a new animated short called Frozen Fever.
Frozen 2 is happening and directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck from the first movie will return with producer Peter Del Vecho for Walt Disney Animated Studios.
Disney’s chief creative officer John Lasseter broke the news at the company’s shareholders meeting yesterday.
We enjoyed making Frozen Fever so much and being back in that world with those characters. Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck have come up with a great idea for a sequel and you will be hearing a lot more about it and we’re taking you back to Arendelle. We are so excited about that.
Kristen Bell is definitely on board for Frozen 2.
