People is reporting that director Tim Burton and actress Helena Bonham Carter have split up.
The eccentric-looking couple never got married but were together for 13 years ever since meeting on the set of Planet of the Apes (2001). Carter has rivaled Johnny Depp in the number of Tim Burton movies she’s appeared in since then — Big Fish, Corpse Bride, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Sweeney Todd, Alice in Wonderland, and Dark Shadows. She will also star in the Alice in Wonderland sequel, Through the Looking Glass, which is being produced by Burton and will open in 2016.
The split has reportedly been amicable and took place earlier in the year. They have “continued to be friends and co-parent their children.” Burton and Carter have two children together, born in 2003 and 2007.
Helena Bonham Carter has previously been linked to Kenneth Branagh and Steve Martin. She will appear in Branagh’s Cinderella adaptation next year, as well as Sarah Gavron and Abi Morgan’s movie about British female suffragettes.
