Remakes are usually hit or miss, but Mad Max: Fury Road looks really good and the trailer is pretty much insane — in a good way.
Starring Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron, the movie takes place in a desert wasteland and features a colorful assortment of characters. The supporting cast includes Nicholas Hoult, Zoe Kravitz, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Riley Keough, Nathan Jones, Hugh Keays-Byrne, and Abbey Lee Kershaw. Keays-Byrne, in particular, looks terrifying.
In this post-apocalyptic world, water is scarce. People have gone crazy. It’s a “world without hope.” The trailer promises we’ll be treated to plenty of action, explosions, car crashes, and cool-looking vehicles, which is exactly the sort of thing I’m looking for in a really good action movie.
Mad Max: Fury Road is written, directed, and produced by George Miller, the creator of the original Mad Max starring Mel Gibson. In an interview, he clarified that “this is not a green screen movie.” He went on to explain: “We crashed a lot of cars; every stunt was done, if not by the cast then by some very fine stunt men; and it was shot on a real location. I’ve had enough experience with CG to know that you can’t really get some of that immersive material authentic in a way.”
In the furthest reaches of our planet, in a stark desert landscape where humanity is broken, and everyone is fighting for the necessities of life, there are two rebels who just might be able to restore order — Max (Tom Hardy), a man of action and a man of few words, who seeks peace of mind following the loss of his wife and child in the aftermath of the chaos, and Furiosa (Charlize Theron), a woman of action and a woman who believes her path to survival may be achieved if she can make it across the desert back to her childhood homeland.
Mad Max: Fury Road opens May 15, 2015.
