TVLine is reporting that Adam Pally is exiting The Mindy Project later this season.
Before The Mindy Project, Pally was a series regular on ABC’s Happy Endings (a criminally underrated, extremely wonderful show), which was canceled after just three seasons (and I’m still mad about it). He joined Mindy Kaling’s show in season 2 as Peter Prentice, the new Ob/Gyn at Shulman & Associates. A graduate of Dartmouth, Peter was a bit of a douche, often seen wearing argyle or plaid to go with his preppy/frat boy persona. He definitely had his likable (and downright lovable) moments, especially when he tried to help Mindy with her love life. He was also one of the more consistently funny characters on the show (but that’s because Adam Pally is awesome).
Pally will be leaving as of the 13th episode of the current season, which will air in early 2015. Although he’ll no longer be a series regular, he might make occasional guest appearances. Pally signed a deal with ABC studios to produce projects for broadcast, cable, and new media, so I’m guessing that’s where he’ll be.
This won’t be the first time that The Mindy Project experiences a major shake-up in the main cast. Former series regulars include Stephen Tobolowksy, Amanda Setton, Anna Camp, and Zoe Jarman.
The ratings for season 3 of The Mindy Project haven’t exactly improved, but Fox did order six additional episodes last week, bringing the total episode count to 21. And considering Fox’s ratings overall, it just might get a fourth season. You can find all of our recaps here.
Now, when am I getting my Happy Endings movie?
