Leighton Meester (The Judge) and Gillian Jacobs (Community) play best friends going through a crisis in the female-driven indie comedy Life Partners. The trailer above sets up the story by telling you that Sasha (Meester) is a lesbian, while Paige (Jacobs) is straight. The film explores how Sasha and Paige have trouble navigating their friendship once Paige gets a boyfriend.
At 29, the most long-term relationship Sasha (Leighton Meester) and Paige (Gillian Jacobs) have ever been in is with each other, using their co-dependent friendship as an excuse not to venture out into the dating world alone. But when Paige meets nerdy Tim (Adam Brody) and starts to get serious for the first time, the nature of their friendship begins to shift. Fearing she’s being cast aside, Sasha tries to keep their relationship the same, but does growing up also mean growing apart?
I love films that explore female relationships and this one looks super cute! Plus, it’s got Adam Brody, who’s married to Meester in real-life (but isn’t playing her boyfriend in the film). You’ve also got Gabourey Sidibe (American Horror Story) and Abby Elliott (Saturday Night Live).
Life Partners is directed by Susanna Fogel, who co-write the script with Joni Lefkowitz. The film is an adaptation of a play the duo wrote about their own friendship.
Life Partners is being distributed by Magnolia Pictures and will be released on VOD on November 6th. It will be available in theaters starting December 5, 2014.
