Marvel’s Daredevil is scheduled to debut next year on Netflix and brand new pictures and clips were shown at New York Comic-Con today. The panel was attended by the majority of the cast including Charlie Cox, Marvel’s Head of Television Jeph Loeb, and showrunner Steve S. DeKnight (Spartacus: War of the Damned).
Netflix has also launched the official Daredevil webpage on their site that includes the official logo and a synopsis for the 13-episode action drama.
Daredevil is the first in a five-part series that Netflix and Marvel struck back in 2013. After Daredevil, Netflix is planning for three more series centered on Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. This will all culminate in The Defenders team-up series. None of the other three heroes have been cast yet.
Based on the clips that were shown at NYCC, Daredevil is going for a dark and gritty tone. We also found out from the panel that Rosario Dawson is playing Night Nurse, and not Elektra like many fans had speculated. Frank Miller and Brian Michael Bendis were DeKnight’s source of inspiration for Daredevil.
Boardwalk Empire‘s Charlie Cox is playing Matt Murdock, the blind lawyer who becomes a vigilante crusader in New York’s Hell’s Kitchen. As we all know, the character was most recently portrayed in 2003 by Ben Affleck. Elden Henson is Foggy Nelson, Matt’s best friend and business partner. True Blood‘s Deborah Ann Woll is playing Matt’s love interest and secretary, Karen Page. Vincent D’Onofrio is supervillain Kingpin, a.k.a. Wilson Fisk. Israeli actress Ayelet Zurer will play Kingpin’s love interest Vanessa Marianna, an art dealer.
Marvel’s Daredevil is a live action series that follows the journey of attorney Matt Murdock, who in a tragic accident was blinded as a boy but imbued with extraordinary senses. Murdock sets up practice in his old neighborhood of Hell’s Kitchen, New York where he now fights against injustice as a respected lawyer by day and masked vigilante at night.
