Black Sea is an underwater heist movie starring Jude Law as a Russian submarine captain gone rogue after getting laid off from his job. After securing the necessary funds from a wealthy benefactor, Law’s character assembles a ragtag group of British and Russian divers to go after Hitler’s gold which is trapped in a sunken U-boat from World War II. Claustrophobia ensues.

A suspenseful adventure thriller centering on a rogue submarine captain (two-time Academy Award nominee Jude Law) who pulls together a misfit crew to go after a sunken treasure rumored to be lost in the depths of the Black Sea. As greed and desperation take control onboard their claustrophobic vessel, the increasing uncertainty of the mission causes the men to turn on each other to fight for their own survival.
From the trailer above, Black Sea appears to be a mix of genres including adventure, thriller, and a bit of family drama and character study. The underwater caper also stars Scoot McNairy, Karl Davies, Konstantin Khabenskiy, Grigoriy Dobrygin, Ben Mendelsohn, and Tobias Menzies. Black Sea is directed by Kevin Macdonald (The Eagle, The Last King of Scotland).
Black Sea comes to theaters in the U.S. on January 23, 2015.
