I’m not exactly sure what to make of this. In theory, a comedy starring Damon Wayans Jr. and Jake Johnson (both of whom currently star on FOX’s New Girl) should be a recipe for success, but the entire premise of Let’s Be Cops is very iffy.
Essentially, it’s about two dudes who dress up as police officers one night and end up taking their costumes to a whole new level. With 22 Jump Street coming out this year, Let’s Be Cops already has some competition to see which buddy cop comedy is superior.
Here’s the official synopsis:
It’s the ultimate buddy cop movie except for one thing: they’re not cops. When two struggling pals dress as police officers for a costume party, they become neighborhood sensations. But when these newly-minted “heroes” get tangled in a real life web of mobsters and dirty detectives, they must put their fake badges on the line.
Starring Damon Wayans Jr., Jake Johnson, Nina Dobrev, and Andy Garcia, and directed by Luke Greenfield, Let’s Be Cops is set for release on August 13, 2014.
