Season 3 of Once Upon A Time has already introduced Peter Pan, Wendy, Tinkerbell, and Ariel, and even more fairytale character will be dropping by in the second half of the season. After announcing that Rebecca Mader would guest star on Once Upon A Time in an unspecified role, it’s been confirmed that she will be playing the Wicked Witch of the West, a new villain. After introducing Wonderland, Neverland, and what we presume is Gothic Literary Universe (the black-and-white world that Dr. Frankenstein is originally from), this will be the first time Once Upon A Time tackles Oz. Although Disney technically doesn’t own the rights to The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, it didn’t stop them from making Oz the Great and Powerful starring James Franco earlier this year.
Rapunzel will also be stopping by, and she may or may not factor into the Wicked Witch’s storyline. African-American actress Alexandra Metz (The Originals) was cast in the role, so not only will we be getting another black character on a predominately white show, but she’ll also be the first princess of color to appear on Once Upon A Time. Some fans have speculated that Prince Charming (Josh Dallas) will be the one to rescue her from her fabled tower, which… doesn’t seem all that interesting to me.
As far as Disney princesses are concerned, we’ve already been acquainted with Snow White, Cinderella, Beauty/Belle, Aurora/Sleeping Beauty, and Ariel/The Little Mermaid. That leaves Jasmine from Aladdin (who’s more likely to show up in Once Upon A Time in Wonderland, since the spin-off series has already delved pretty heavily into Agrabah), Pocahontas, and the princesses introduced in Frozen.
Meanwhile, actor Christopher Gorham (Ugly Betty) will also guest star as an “important character in the life of Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison).”
