The comedy Super Clyde, created by Greg Garcia (The Millers) and starring Rupert Grint (Harry Potter franchise), was rejected by CBS in favor of sitcoms Mom, The Millers, The Crazy Ones, and the canceled We Are Men.
In a surprise twist, CBS has released the rejected pilot for your online viewing pleasure.
Grint played Clyde, an American fast food employee who decides to become a superhero (Kick-Ass, anyone?); the cast also included Stephen Fry, Tyler Labine, and Laura Ortiz.
Super Clyde was among a slew of rejected shows that I was hoping would get picked up – the others being John Mulaney’s sitcom (which has since been picked up by FOX) and Craig Robinson’s sitcom which was being produced by the guys behind The Office, co-starred stand-up comedian Kumail Nanjiani and had a premise similar to School of Rock.
After watching the pilot, I can definitively say that Super Clyde had a lot of potential, could have easily been a fall favorite, and CBS made a mistake by not picking it up. By choosing to release the pilot online, I wonder if CBS is thinking the same thing? Admittedly, Super Clyde feels more like an ABC production. Perhaps we’ll see another incarnation of Super Clyde next year!
