Jay Z’s “Picasso Baby: A Performance Art Film”

Directed by Mark Romanek, the music video/short film for Jay Z’s “Picasso Baby” (the first single off of his most recent album, Magna Carta Holy Grail) features Hov rapping, singing, and dancing with audience members in a museum setting.

Footage for the film was taken from a six-hour long performance Jay Z gave at NYC’s Pace Gallery, where people would step one by one into a cordoned off area and have the unique experience of Jay-Z creating art with them.

The video is riddled with cameo appearances such as performance artist Marina Abramovic (whose own piece of performance art titled “The Artist Is Present” was what inspired the idea for “Picasso Baby”), rapper Wale, Michael K. Williams (The Wire, Boardwalk Empire), and more.
